SIDETRACK THEATRE

The Sidetrack Theatre is a rustic and intimate 150-seat capacity performance space situated 
in the Inner-west’s Addison Rd Centre Complex, Marrickville. The space has a large stage area 
(up to 8 x 9 metres) with excellent acoustics and sight lines. It is ideally suited to both small 
to medium theatrical productions and shows in development. It is also well set up to cater 
for community based productions. 

Sidetrack Theatre comes complete with onsite parking and a full support team behind each 
area from ticketing through to marketing & production.  

 
SIDETRACK INCLUSIONS

Season Hire (up to 6 performance days per week); The License Fee is $1500 plus GST against 
30% of gross box office, whichever is greater per week. 

Single Performance hire; The License Fee is $750 plus GST against 30% of gross box office 
whichever is greater on the night. 
The License Fee includes the following:

1. Venue Hire – Sidetrack Theatre – 150 capacity 

2. Venue Staff - Dedicated Box Office Staff member

3. Ticketing - The ticketing system in place allows ticket sales to take place via phone, 
internet and via our box offices prior to the event and on the day of the show. This is run 
exclusively by Century Venues, however 10% of tickets can be Consignment at $1 per ticket.

5. Marketing - We can offer you a wide range of marketing support including targeted e-mail 
campaigns and inclusions in our monthly printed calendars and monthly newsletters. 

4. Production - Basic Audio & Lighting Rig – Basic lighting and sound included with hire. 
Additional production equipment is available for hire.

Additional Costs:

1. Catering – A variety of catering options are available in-house through Century Venues 
Catering. Please speak to your Event Coordinator regarding suitable options for your event

2. Additional Production Requirements – Must be referred to Century Venues production 
manager. These would include extra lighting, sound, bump in and technical operators. 

3. Security - Dependent on performance additional security costs may apply 

4. Electricitiy and Utilities

SIDETRACK does not assist with the costs of:

Production (set, costumes, rehearsals, travel, freight etc.) 

Personnel (wages or fees) 

Individual show marketing including flyer design and printing 

HOW TO APPLY

In 2010 the season of works presented at the venue will be curated by Century Venues 
Companies are invited to submit a project to SIDETRACK for consideration at any time of the year.
As the season will be progressively curated throughout 2010, fewer season slots may be available as
the year proceeds.

Who can Apply?

You can apply as an independent company or team of artists. We are most interested in professional
teams of developing artists and facilitators that:
Create vital contemporary theatre and have a strong vision that guides their processes, practises and future development.

Demonstrate originality, artistic strength and strong planning skills.

Have a dedicated and efficient producer assigned to the project.

What are we looking for?

The SIDETRACK program is not limited to one aesthetic, style, form or genre of performance.
SIDETRACK encourages and celebrates all preoccupations and obsessions that drive artists to create
new work.

We want new performance work that:

Is original in its ideas and adventurous in its creative processes

Involves artists with a demonstrated commitment to their discipline

Simply tells a good story well

Is playful and rigorous

Is testing new ground in its exploration of form, content or style

Embraces risk-taking collaborations between artforms and artists 
Has the potential to appeal to diverse audiences or services a healthy niche.

Could realistically be presented at SIDETRACK

SIDETRACK also wants to support the creation of new works for young people and families. These

could be new works of theatre, dance, music, puppetry, circus or new media. This work should be

appropriate for children (ages 3-6, 6-9, 9-12), youth (13-17) or families and is innovative, nondidactic

and treat children with the intelligence and respect they deserve.


Submission Requirements

We require succinct, accurate information and a strong rationale for your project.

PLEASE SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING:

Three pages (maximum) of project details which include:

1. A lively description of the proposed project.

2. Names of all key artistic personnel.

3. Name/s of the nominated producer or producing team

4. The vision of the creative team for the project.

5. A production budget for ‘expenditure’ only, based on a 4 week season in an 150 seat venue.

6. A sketch marketing plan for the project.

7. Preferred dates/periods for presentation (and periods that are impossible for your team)

Phone, email and mailing address details of the team’s primary contact person.

Attachments:

1. Brief biographies (1-2 paragraphs per person) of all key personnel.

2. Text-based work: a full script.

3. *Optional for devised work: video excerpts or material that illustrates your devising methods.

What Happens Next?

SIDETRACK will acknowledge receipt of your submission by email.

If your initial pitch is successful, you may be invited to meet with us to discuss the project.

If the discussed project is considered unsuitable for SIDETRACK, you will be advised shortly after

meeting. Highly suitable projects will be either shortlisted, or given programming confirmation.
